The Man Behind the Mission

About Master Patrick Mehrtens

From mowing lawns for lessons to professional baseball to mentoring the next generation.

Where It All Started

I started Taekwondo at 9 years old.

Not in a kids class — in adult classes — training alongside my older brothers. I was the youngest of five kids, and nothing was handed to me.

If I wanted lessons, I worked for them.

I mowed the lawn at Bill Clark's very first martial arts studio to earn my training. Those early days taught me discipline, humility, and grit — lessons that shaped who I am today.

The Baseball Chapter

Years later, in 1985, I was drafted 74th overall by the Toronto Blue Jays. I chose college, then was drafted again by the Chicago White Sox and played professional baseball for over three years.

Injuries ended my shot at the Big Leagues.

But they didn't end my drive.

During every off-season, I taught Taekwondo — and discovered my true passion: helping people reach their potential.
